India’s forest cover witnessed overall increase of 1,540 square kilometres at national level


  • This was stated by Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, while quoting India State of Forest Report (ISFR)-2021. 
  • This increase is in comparison to the previous assessment of ISFR-2019.
  • Mr. Yadav said the forest cover has increased by 5,516 square kilometres in the country during the last 2 forest cover assessments. 
  • He said, the forest cover in Rajasthan is 16,655 square kilometres showing an increase of 25 square kilometres as compared to ISFR-2019.
