UN adopts consensus resolution on Rohingyas

 

  • The UN General Assembly third committee adopted a consensus resolution asking to ensure accountability for human rights violations against the Rohingya and other minorities in Myanmar. 
  • The resolution jointly sponsored by the European Union (EU) and Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called for structural reforms to address the root cause of discrimination against the minorities in the country. 
  • A total of 107 countries co-sponsored the resolution which is the highest since 2017.
